  • If you could learn any new skill completely and instantly, what would it be?
  • Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Working on any new games at the moment?

Assuming we're talking about IF: hmm, no. The last serious game I started is a small game I started in February of 2002, and after cranking on it really well for 24 hours and writing about the first third, I've never been able to write any more of it. I also talked to another ifmud regular about collaborating, and we entered an intent in the 2002 annual comp, but never got our act together, even to just do the goofy one-room game I wanted to do.

Basically, I have too many other things on my plate right now. I have the game I'm working on professionally, music, a pair of ideas for doing web comics I'd like to do (both of which require me to write a bunch of code), numerous games of IF to play or finish playing...

What's your proudest achievement?

Getting 4000 downloads of Chromatron in the first month of releasing it, entirely by word of mouth. I suspect as soon as I finish one of my "real" games, that will become the new proudest achievement, though.

(Not in the running: by the time Thief: The Dark Project shipped, by contribution to it (the graphics engine) was so out of date I was more embarassed than proud.)

Top three movies ever?

There are some movies I haven't seen in so long, I can't really judge them properly, classics of my youth like Raiders of the Lost Ark and even Star Wars. So allowing for that sort of lapse of memory/judgement:

  • Local Hero
  • Memento
  • Brazil

(...Edward Scissorhands, Vertigo, Being John Malkovich, Blade Runner...)

If you could learn any new skill completely and instantly, what would it be?

Drawing. I drew some in high school in a class, and I was ok at drawing what I saw, but it's just so slow. I don't know if artists get faster with lots and lots of practice, or if it's just some talent I don't have, but being able to actually draw like, oh, say, Vera would be awesome, even if I didn't also have the character-design skill she has.

Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Nowhere! I have, not a phobia, but an anti-interest in travelling. For me it is an awful lot of hassle (I don't have a passport) for very little payoff. But, ok, if I had to... I guess Rome, for that whole cradle-of-civilization sort of effect.
