not a beautiful or unique snowflake

I finally read* the manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko about ten years after smarry first mentioned it. As I recall, when I tried it then I found reading by dialup too slow, but I think I also found the comic itself too slow.

Now, with a lot more manga and age under my belt, it was pretty much perfect for me. (Also, of course, back then it hadn't ended yet; that happened in 2006. I wonder how different reading it all at once is.) Well, perfect? It was a little bit of a tear-jerker; I read the last two or three volumes crying non-stop**.

* Should you actually choose to read it, note that the linked scanlation stops two volumes before the end; you can find the rest in torrents or etc.

** The link isn't entirely fair, but I think it's reasonable to interpret this as my lame Western reaction*** to the same issues mentioned.

*** Although I doubt most Western readers would be moved to tears for two hours; this particular issue really seems to set me off that way.
