not a beautiful or unique snowflake

So I was doing a periodic sweep through my friends list to see if there anybody new had added me--a periodic sweep whose period is rather large, that is, infrequent, in that this is not something that happens often enough to be worth checking--and I found three people had added me. One was someone from a pre-existing community, but the other two I didn't see any shared friends on their friends list. (Note--I'm not complaining about being friends'd; I'm just curious about this sort of thing.)

So I dug up the old six-degrees-of-LJ thing to try to see how they had found me, but it was very odd. I can run a result from me to them and get back something that looks reasonable, but if I try to search from them to me, with the 'skip one-hop connection', I get some odd results. Specifically, it goes through certain people who I've friends'd but haven't friends'd me, despite the fact it's supposed to be looking for the opposite. Bug, I guess?
