not a beautiful or unique snowflake

heavy metal

I spent about an hour last night rerecording from scratch a less sketchy version (2MB) of the last sketchbook entry (2MB), warts and all. I made a small change to the bass part to try to improve complementarity (I wanted to make a bigger change, but nothing came to mind), altered the chorus to have a little bit of chordal musicality, and most significantly added a wacky multi-tracked guitar whine and a transition from the B to the A.

It's not the greatest thing ever--I don't think it would make one of my "best of" tapes--but it gives you some perspective on what can be written and recorded in such a short time. (While there are 10 guitar "tracks", most of them are only playing 30-60% of the time, and all of them are stereo-doubled so there's really only five, maybe six unique tracks. The two only-sort-of-doubled ones--the sixteenth note tremolo bursts--were pretty much improvised.)
