helping people, creating, listening to certain music... can't think of any more
1. Helping People
I get a lift out of helping people, whether it's spending a couple of hours emailing an acquaintance who's TA-ing a game design course and wants help on this couple-week section where they're working on creating IF, or whether it's telling somebody in a car how to get to the freeway.
It's what I try to spend as much of my time as possible doing, when I don't get caught up in online socializaing and surfing the web. I write and record music, I write text, I design games, I program computers. Most of those activities lift me up to happiness (or perhaps beyond) when I complete them. I'm not sure if I'm happy when I'm doing them or not, but I'm certainly setting a course for happiness.
3. Listening to certain music
This is often listening to the music I've created. Somehow there is some relation to the experience of creating it that makes the experience more powerful to me, even if the music isn't something anyone else would enjoy. I'm not sure how I can explain it.
But I can also enter a state of bliss by listening to certain records, or even certain songs on infinite repeat. It might be The Smiths Louder Than Bombs or Lisa Germano Excerpts From a Love Circus or King Crimson Red.
Lots of possibilities.
There are many other things that I like, but they tend to lift me from baseline to content, not from content to happy. I'll post about them later.
